- It supplies vitamins and minerals used during normal cell growth.
- It may help reduce excessive oxidative stress and background inflammation.
Direct studies proving that a specific diet improves every PRP, PFP, or MFAT procedure are limited. Much of the nutrition advice comes from research on inflammation, wound healing, connective-tissue health, and recovery after medical procedures.
Protein Provides the Raw Materials for Repair
Protein is one of the most important parts of a healing diet. The digestive system breaks protein into amino acids. The body uses these amino acids to build and repair muscle, collagen, enzymes, immune proteins, tendons, ligaments, and other tissues.
Helpful protein choices include:
- Chicken and turkey
- Fish and seafood
- Eggs
- Lean beef
- Beans and lentils
- Tofu and tempeh
- Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, when tolerated
- Protein-rich soups or smoothies
Sonoran University’s Regenerative Health Diet emphasizes high-quality protein, antioxidant-rich foods, and important micronutrients. Its goal is to provide the body with the building blocks required for connective-tissue repair (Sonoran University Clinical Care, 2025).
Protein needs are not the same for every patient. Kidney disease, liver disease, age, body size, activity level, and the type of injury must be considered. A patient should not begin a very high-protein diet without medical guidance.
Vitamins, Minerals, and Antioxidants Support Normal Healing
Several nutrients play important roles during cell repair.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is needed for normal collagen formation. Collagen helps provide structure to skin, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and other connective tissues.

Zinc

Nutrition research supports correcting true deficiencies. However, taking large amounts of vitamins and minerals does not always lead to faster healing in a person who is not deficient (Krasnick Regenerative Medicine, n.d.).

- Sugary drinks
- Candy and pastries
- Processed meats
- Foods containing trans fats
- Large amounts of refined carbohydrates
- Excessive sodium
- Smoking and nicotine products
Alcohol is especially important to discuss. It can contribute to dehydration, affect sleep, interact with medications, and influence platelet function. Highly processed foods and added sugars may also make blood sugar control more difficult.
Patients do not need to follow a perfect diet. A steady pattern of balanced meals is more beneficial than eating one so-called superfood.
Should Omega-3 and Turmeric Supplements Be Avoided?
Whole foods and concentrated supplements should not be treated as the same thing.
Eating salmon, walnuts, or a meal seasoned with turmeric is usually different from taking high-dose fish oil, krill oil, turmeric extract, or concentrated curcumin capsules. Supplements can contain much larger amounts of active ingredients than food.

Omega-3 supplements can affect blood-clotting pathways, although major reviews have not shown a large increase in clinically important bleeding for most people. Curcumin has shown platelet-inhibiting effects in laboratory and early clinical research. However, evidence about meaningful bleeding risk in humans is mixed.
