Detoxification is naturally occurring in the body. This is the way the body eliminates waste for proper function. Most often, the body can benefit from a dietary detox to help aid the detoxification process along. Detoxification should be done once to twice a year and with the consent of your medical professional. When our patients undergo a detox, one of the supplements they take is “Drainageâ€.

Drainage
Drainage is formulated for symptoms that are associated with toxicity. These symptoms include fatigue, headaches, and sluggishness. Drainage is a combination of homeopathic liver “drainers†with homeopathic remedies that are known to support excretory function. The specific organs that drainage focuses on is the liver, kidney, and colon. The ingredients in drainage include:
- Benzoicum Acidum: helps with kidney insufficiency and metabolism
- Berberis Vulgaris: inflammation of the kidneys, radiating pains, burning, liver, and promotes a healthy flow of bile
- Bryonia: helps with dry membranes and a swollen liver, nausea, and irritability
- Cantharis: helps with burning pain and inflammation
- Carduus Benedictus: targets the liver, spleen, gallbladder
- Cinchona Officinalls: promotes circulation, gas, and bloating of the abdomen
- Dioscorea Villosa: acts on the nerves, abdominal organs, sciatic nerve, and spinal cord
- Nux Vomica: Toxic liver, irritable nervous system, digestive disturbances
As one can see, the holistic herbs used in this treatment help decrease inflammation and can aid in weight loss. As proper detoxification is done the body rids damaged cells as well as weight. These two factors help produce a higher phase angle.

Phase Angle
Phase angle is how health care professionals can monitor the integrity of cellular membranes. If the phase angle begins to decline, it has been linked directly to a decline in overall health. Similar to if phase angle increases, overall health is increasing. The integrity of cellular membranes is essential as cell survival depends on solid membranes. When the cellular wall is weak, it can collapse. From here, it is difficult for the body to take up the proper nutrients it needs. Additionally, with a weak cellular membrane, the cell is left with little to no protection from outside invaders.
We monitor a patient’s phase angle with the use of the InBody 770. This advanced machine allows us to not only track the phase angle of our patients but many other areas of their health as well, including but not limited to intracellular and extracellular water.
Increasing Phase Angle
There are simple steps individuals can take every day to begin to improve their phase angle. These lifestyle changes include:
- Exercising for a minimum of 30 minutes a day (as simple as walking)
- Adding in a vegetable and fruit to every meal or snack
- Getting adequate protein and whole grains
- Limiting saturated fat and salt intake
- Not smoking
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Adequate sleep for proper cellular healing
Drainage is a great product and helps jumpstart many patients’ detox processes. It is not known to have the best taste, but it is known to show results. When taking drainage, patients report not feeling the best after. This is due to the fact that the drops are taken on an empty stomach to provide maximum health benefits. The further into the detoxification process a patient gets, the easier drainage becomes to take. -Kenna Vaughn, ACSM-EP Senior Health Coach
