Worker’s Compensation & Chiropractic Care

Share

The worker’s compensation system is a form of insurance that was established to protect workers who’ve been injured throughout the term of their employment, providing wage replacement and medical benefits. When the worker suffers harm while on the job, they are supported by the worker’s compensation insurance. Medical bills are taken care of and the worker is compensated for lost wages from missed days at work after their injuries. In the case an injury is recognized as permanent by the worker’s compensation system. The individual will often be considered to be permanently disabled following a disability rating, where the worker is then compensated for damage or injury.

The worker’s compensation system is available in numerous states and it works differently depending on the individual’s location. This type of insurance is frequently referred to as a “no-fault” system, because it doesn’t necessarily question who was at fault in the incident and it still proceeds to support hurt workers. However, although the worker’s compensation system is believed to function as a “no fault” system itself, many cases encounter the involvement of a great deal of attorneys and sometimes the system’s support for the worker will differ.

After being injured, the worker’s priority is to restore their health and return to work as soon as possible. Many individuals with symptoms of pain and discomfort resulting from an injury or aggravated condition from a work injury may overuse their need for prescription killers, especially opioids, through the worker’s compensation system. The use of these drugs has increased tremendously over the past several years, regardless of their benefit.

While prescription drugs may provide a temporary relief from a variety of symptoms affecting an individual, these don’t address the problem at its source and their use for relief as a long-term solution is debatable. Fortunately, as the use of narcotic painkillers has risen, so too has the interest in more natural, alternative treatment options.

Chiropractic Better for Neck Pain than Drugs

Chiropractic care is a frequently considered alternative treatment option by those who wish to follow a much more natural treatment approach. Neck and back complications are among the most common work-related injuries, particularly in construction jobs. With chiropractic treatment, a chiropractor will utilize spinal adjustments and manual manipulations, along with various other techniques, to correct any spinal misalignments which may be causing painful symptoms. The gradual re-alignment of the spine will help relieve the inflammation and swelling around the affected area as well as help restore the body’s original flexibility and mobility, eliminating any pain and discomfort. Furthermore, a chiropractor may also recommend stretches and/or exercises to strengthen the muscles and other tissues of the body in order to speed up the individual’s rehabilitation process.

Additionally, Chiropractic care is a cost-effect, alternative treatment option. Studies have indicated that chiropractic is a less expensive form of care for worker’s compensation patients because, not only does it focus on treating injuries or conditions at their source and ensuring the worker can return to their job as quickly as possible, it also prevents the individual from using prescription painkillers to temporarily relieve their symptoms and it strengthens the body to prevent future harm.

Unintentional injuries caused by unexpected accidents can happen anywhere at any time, especially at the workplace.  As a matter of fact, an estimated 93 million workdays are lost each year due to work-related injuries, such as neck and back complications. The health of our workers is important towards the bright future of a company and thanks to the worker’s compensation system, many workers can receive the care they deserve after an injury, including experiencing the benefits of chiropractic care for their overall health and wellness.
