Headaches Caused By Auto Injuries

Share

After being involved in an automobile accident, many individuals frequently experience symptoms of pain, discomfort and headaches. The impact from the collision not only causes confusion for the individual, it can also cause direct trauma and even aggravate previous medical conditions. For those people whom suffered an injury as a result of a car crash, the symptoms can greatly affect the individual’s overall health and well-being, altering their lifestyles.

Back pain and neck pain caused by whiplash, a type of neck injury resulting from a sudden, back-and-forth motion of the head, are common symptoms many individuals experience after an automobile accident, but alternatively, headaches are also a significantly common symptom affecting a majority of individuals.

Post-traumatic headaches can be painful and debilitating. These usually begin immediately after the auto accident but they may also occur within several hours or days after the event. Whiplash causes headaches because the muscles, tendons, nerves, and other tissues surrounding the cervical spine can become irritated and inflamed. The head pain generally starts on the neck and may move up to the individual’s head. There are a variety of headaches, characterized by their level of severity and by the headache’s location of origin. Symptoms of a headache include: a dull, aching head pain, a sensation of tightness or pressure across the forehead, on the sides, and/or on the back of the head, tenderness on the scalp, neck and shoulder muscles, and occasionally, headaches may also cause loss of appetite on the affected individual. A blow to the head as a result of an auto injury or a concussion, traumatic brain injury, can also cause symptoms of head pain.

Headaches And Auto Injury

If the individual experiences headaches or other impairing symptoms as a result of being involved in an automobile accident, it’s important for them to seek immediate medical attention to properly diagnose for any possible injuries or aggravated conditions which could lead to further complications if left untreated. Fortunately, individual’s who’ve been involved in an automobile accident and experienced injuries or aggravated conditions during the auto collision have a variety of treatment options to choose from. Chiropractic care is frequently used as an effective alternative treatment for auto injuries, including whiplash and headaches. After diagnosing the individual involved in the car crash, a doctor of chiropractic, or DC, will follow with a set of spinal adjustments and manual manipulations to carefully correct any subluxations or misalignments of the spine, to gradually relieve tension from the structures surrounding the injury and decrease the irritation and inflammation caused by the complication.

Cervicogenic Headache and Chiropractic

Headaches are commonly caused by damage or injury to the neck where chiropractic treatment can help slowly reduce the individual’s pain and discomfort to ultimately relieve their head pain and other symptoms.
